Disability and Participation

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities emphasizes the right of persons with disabilities to participate in society, decision-making and cultural life on an equal basis with others.

Organizations of persons with disabilities (Disabled Peoples Organisations or DPOs) are important in making the voices of persons with disabilities heard. Strong DPOs can efficiently promote the human rights of persons with disabilities. One of our main aims is to support our partner organisations to strengthen their capacities so that they can more effectively promote their own rights within their communities and/or national or international platforms.

International disability movement can support disability organizations in developing countries by exchanging experiences, sharing knowledge and skills, and participating in development cooperation. Peer support is also an important form of activity for persons with disabilities.
