ABILIS Foundation was founded by a group of Finnish disability activists in 1998. The ABILIS Foundation funds small projects that are planned and run by disabled people’s organisations and self-help groups in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. The projects advocate for equal opportunities for people with disabilities, independent living, human rights, economic self-sufficiency and the status of women with disabilities.
The amount of the grant is, on average, 9000 euros. There are, on average, 250 projects funded by ABILIS running in approximately 40 countries. Approximately 100 new projects that are supported by ABILIS are launched each year.
ABILIS Foundation receives it’s programme funding directly from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, separately from the other member organisations of the Finnish Disability & Development Partnership.
